This 40 acres of placer is in the area of the famous Bentley prospects and mine originally owned by Donald and Chris Bentley... founders of famous Bentley Ranch in Garderville, NV. Here you'll find a piece of mining history, as this entire area was once owned by the Bentleys' themselves.
The photos below are from two 20 acre parcels within 1/2 mile of each other, but not conjoining. The first 20 acres is creek-side, and was just recently made available from the previous claim owner whom was holding on to this claim since 2014. Some small tailing pile on the claim show some interest and work was done here in the past.
Tailings piles from previous attempts at getting the gold can be found periodically. There's over a dozen old mines in the hills above, the apparent source of the placer deposit in the run ditches and run offs.
You'll find these claims have easy road access from MINE RD. just on the outskirts of Garderville, NV. You can drive right to these claims and unload your gear on site and get to work.
Gettin' the gold from these claims is all about using a dry washer, or re-circulating sluice setup. Water is sparse in the desert, but if your clever -- going out to these claims in late winter/early spring will find water in the run off streams and would be the perfect time of year to use wet-system sluices and traditional panning.
Finding Gold on DKW Placers
You can mine this claim year round. Reno doesn’t get much snow-fall, and the seasonal creek nearby the claim provides water constantly. To start mining this claim there 3 methods could be used to start running tonnage, if you want to scale-up beyond hands and pans:
– Dry-washer
– Metal detector for pickers along the ravine
– Water recirculating sluice system
– Haul ore to an off-site mill
In my opinion, a dry washer would work wonders for this claim for a number of reasons. Hauling water is always a pain, and with a gas-powered dry washer you can simply run material without the need of water-heavy sluice units.
Camping on the claim can be done for up to 10 days at a time. However you can store temporary structures there like a trailer, a mobile mill site, tractors or other equipment.
