Dogskin 1 and Dogskin 2 are conjoining 20 acre placer mining claims, for a total of 40 acres. The claim has over 2500 feet of creek side access which is a year-round spring fed creek, "Red Mountain Creek".
A good dirt road takes you directly to the creek, and with a little 4x4 you can pass right through it. Isolated in a wide canyon, there is plenty of sunlight, and even a few trees if you need to escape to shade! You'll find this claim about 25 minutes north of Gerlach, just west of the same playa they hold 'Burning Man' at!
While Gerlach might be out of the way for most of us, the town does have all the amenities you need including food, motels, hardware, mechanics and fuel! The Dogskin placer claims are well worth the drive. The atmosphere is serene and the creek is a past gold producer! So plan to come out for a few days and enjoy panning/sluicing in the creek. How To Start Mining
Dogskin placer claims are good for gold panning, nugget shooting, sluicing and even dredging!
- Perfect for gold panning on the creek! Wade in about 6" to a foot and a half of water and dig deep for those black sands!
- High banking. The different strata levels are clearly shown in some high banks throughout the claim!
- Sluicing in the creek! The water flow is strong enough to push a sluice, or you can even enhance it with a pump! It's year round water flow so goldcubes, and sluices are a go!
- Nugget shooting! You never know, sticking a Goldbug 2 into those crevices and low pressure zones might find gold!
Take your boots off, and get in the creek! A couple shovels full of dirt through a classifier and you can start pannin' it down. So many colorful rock types of varying composition can't help me think there might be some garnets in there somewhere...
