Sierra County, California - Gold Past Producer

The High Moss II is a 20 acre placer mining claim in Sierra County, California, located next to the imposing Sierra Butte Mountains on the Salmon Creek! This gold-bearing river is a stones throw from both Gold and Salmon Lakes, great spots for fishing and camping and enjoying the beauty of the High Sierras while gold mining. Surrounded by gold-rich mountains, this section of the Salmon Creek is fed by several different tributaries on both sides of the valley, creating a gold funnel right here on the High Moss II! Start gold mining on this recreational placer claim!

Here are some key features of the High Moss II:

  • Quartz-rich boulders that feed gold into the Salmon Creek found directly on claim
  • A high mountain placer - it refreshes itself with new gold every year!
  • Naturally collects gold from both sides of a gold-rich valley
  • Flows spring through fall, frozen in the winter
  • Located just off Gold Lake Highway - extremely easy to access
  • Perfect for a recreational, summer gold mining enthusiast
  • Camping permitted 14 days at a time on-site

Gold Mining with the High Moss II is Unique:

Plenty of sands and gravels already present on the claim, but these materials constantly refresh with the passing of the seasons. Black sands and the presence of surface quartz indicates glacial ices have broken down igneous intrusions on either side of the valley and deposited them into the Salmon Creek, among other places in the valley.

But this area of the Salmon Creek is special, finding itself in a natural funnel that slowly tightens down the mountain South toward Sierra City. Everything farther North of it has culminated here on the High Moss II, and to make matters better, the river bends on this claim. As the river bends and slows down, it has a higher likelihood to drop the heavier materials it carries, like gold, onto its sides and onto the bank.

Because of its good position, the High Moss II can enjoy seeing gold float down its waters from as far away as the beginnings of Church Creek, five miles away! Further, the potential to find gold on the high-banks on this section of the river becomes a distinct possibility as the seasons get closer to fall and the river calms down. Gold mining here is a luxurious breeze!
