Silverwater

Once a highly sought-after commodity, mercury, also known as quicksilver, played a critical role in various industries, from electrical apparatus and dental preparations to its historical use in recovering gold. In Japanese, mercury is known as Silverwater.

In the modern era, the landscape of mercury mining has drastically shifted.  While mining mercury directly for profitability may be questionable, nearly all mercury deposits in this geological area also contain gold.

Cinnabar, scientifically known as mercury(II) sulfide (HgS), is the most common and historically important ore of mercury. It's a striking scarlet to brick-red mineral, often found in vein-filling deposits associated with volcanic activity and hot springs. These geological environments, characterized by hydrothermal activity, are also prime locations for the formation of gold deposits.

While gold isn't chemically bound within the cinnabar mineral itself, its presence alongside cinnabar indicates a shared geological origin and often a similar depositional environment. Geochemical studies have also shown that gold deposits, particularly those formed at low and intermediate temperatures, can have higher concentrations of mercury, suggesting a close association in their formation.

    Silverwater Ore Body

Cinnabar occurring in limestone as very rich bunches and pods and also forms disseminated crystals in white calcite veinlets cutting the limestone.  Some of the ore from the upper parts of the mine contain stibnite and the in the lower levels scattered pods of ore contained higher percentage of stibnite.  Both the ore bodies lay in the limestone conglomerate close beneath the contact, in places coming in direct contact with the shale.  The largest ore body is localized between two intersecting steep faults.  A major northwest trending deposit: Upper TRI and Lower JUR sedimentary rocks.

The remnants and concrete foundation of the old mill site are still in-tact as you can see from the photographs.  Multiple shafts and workings are on this 20.66 acre lode property.  Past production includes up to 46 pounds of Mercury per foot of vein material, gold, silver and antimony are also present.

Formally NEVADA QUICKSILVER COMPANY - this mine was the leading Mercury producer in the United States from 1928-1929.

Now named "Silverwater" this significantly developed deposit has many tons of material left on or near the surface, as well as rich veins ore bearing veins underground.  This mine features extremely high-grade cinnabar ore running between 20-40 POUNDS of Hg per ton. Actively mined between 1928-1943. 3,259 FLASKS TO END OF 1943; 1016/TON.

Hundreds of tons of unprocessed high-grade ore Mercury and gold ore lay on the surface of this mine.

Both large specimens of high grade cinnabar ore can be found on the surface.  When we scouted this location we found a high-grade piece of ore worth more than $200 in mercury just sitting on the surface near the old mill site.  Rich territory to mine for both gold, mercury, silver that's been untouched for over half a century!

Here are some other features of the "Silverwater" claim at a glance:
    • Potential for high profitability - Once known as "Nevada Quicksilver" they produced 20-40 pounds of mercury per ton of material, which is equivalent to 1 ounces per ton of Gold at todays prices.
    • Ease of access - The paved road ends just about a mile from the primary features of this claim.  The final stretch of dirt road is easy to navigate, no 4x4 was required.
    • Highly mineralized area - The area is known to produce more than just buckets of of mercury: gold and silver, lead, antimony, antimony, cinnabar gem specimens, and more have been found!
    • Well developed underground workings - multiple shafts, and tunnels run throughout the property with plenty of high-grade vein material remaining in the mines themselves.
