NOTE. — The following tabular statement contains the results of an examination of seventy-seven gold mines and sixty-five quartz mills, situated in the region between the Merced and Stanislaus Kivers, all of which were visited by Mr. Kemond during the months of August to November, 1865. Of the seventy-seven mines, fiftysix were being worked at that time ; and of the sixty-five mills, twenty-three were running. The mines are distributed through the different kinds of rocks as follows :
