The Tule Canyon area was a highly sought-after mining district known for its incredible amount of placer gold and silver, particularly in Nugget Gulch where these claims lay, trapped in a little over a dozen feet of gravels down to bedrock. Though worked for decades in the past, miners were never able to fully work the site and only dry-washed the surface. Renewed interest in the area sent prospectors back in, with some reporting gold as high as 37.3 g/t and 5,090 g/t silver just South of the claim site.

A lack of water once drove miners away, but nearby Goldfield and Gold Point have since kept water flowing more freely among the desert sands, making placer mining in Tule Canyon easier than it once was. A decent dirt road exiting the small town of Gold Point, NV led to the claim (four-wheel drive recommended), with amenities available in Gold Point or in the fuller-service towns of Tonopah and Beatty. Nearby stood the historic, still-standing cabin of the “One-Eyed Preacher.”
